A small car + a big idea

Hey there —

I’ve been genuinely amazed by the response to the guide on Building Transformative Online Programs — over 750 people have downloaded it, including you.

Thank you.

Since you may only know me from that LinkedIn post, let me briefly introduce myself.

My work on large-scale learning environments started, as it were, in a small car.

It was early 2014. I was working with Otto Scharmer, and at the time he had a Smart Car. One evening, driving me home from an event, he said MIT had asked him to make an online version of his graduate school course. “Would you want to build that?” he asked.

I’d never built an online course. I’d never even taken one. But I knew Theory U quite well, and I was practiced at saying yes and figuring out how later. (More about me here, if you're curious.)

After twelve years, multiple courses with different organizations, and hundreds of thousands of learners across 180+ countries — I wanted to help more people do this work. That turned into the guide, which led you here.

This newsletter is where I’ll keep going. I’ll share ideas I’m working through, things I’m reading, and questions I’m sitting with. Sometimes I’ll ask for your thinking. You’ll hear from me once a month, maybe more, maybe less.

If you have reflections on the guide, specific projects you’re working on, or things you’d like me to explore in more detail — I’d love to know. Reply to this email if you’d like to reach me.

Warmly,

Adam
